One of a Kind Needlepoint Gifts
My grandmother loved to needlepoint and when I was about 8 years old she taught me. It isn’t something that I did often but I picked it up again in my 40s as a way to decompress at the end of the day and to indulge my creative desires. When my grandmother passed away, my aunt sent me a box filled with all of her unfinished projects and supplies. I set about finishing each one. It was wonderful to hold something that she had begun decades ago, probably when I was the age my children are now, and to pick up where she left off. Was this something she did to take her mind off the troubles of the day? Did she love creating something that didn’t exist before and that no one else could recreate? While I’ll never know the answers to those questions, this gift she gave me is something I hope to carry for years to come.
As the years have gone by, I have played more with color and design. I sometimes purchase a canvas “with good bones” and then alter the design and change the colors to try something totally new. I have also started designing my own canvases. I am lucky enough to have found another creative soul with magical fingers to collaborate with me and make my designs come alive, transforming my finished canvases into pieces that can be used every day.

Made with antique wool thread this is extra durable. The antique thread does have some color variations because of its age so there can be differences in hues in the lighter shades. This little number is backed with cork fabric and lined in both light beige linen and a sunny yellow awning stripe.

Measuring 9×9 this little cutie packs a lot if style in a petite purse. Created with antique wool thread, lined with green velvet, and finished with faux leather, this is one of my favorite pieces. A thin gold chain completes the package.
A Couple of Quails Tote SOLD
By SOLD, I mean MINE for this one. This was one of my earliest creations. It was one of the first canvases of my grandmother’s that I finished which is why there is so much variation in the color of the thread. There were several decades between when it was started and finished. I use it every weekend at hockey games and can attest to its durability. I pack a blanket, water bottles, assorted pouches full of sundries, gloves, hat… you name it. I drag it around everywhere with me. This is proof that needlepoint products are durable and built to be used.
