Most people think pink in the springtime, with the tulips poking up through the ground and cherry blossoms blooming, but I need pink all winter. When the alarm goes off, and the sky is still dark, the last thing I want to do is put my feet on the cold floor to start my day. When I see those first streaks of pink in the morning sky, I can’t help but smile. It’s a new day. Those first morning shades of pink literally ring in the possibilities of each day. Pink lifts your mood and brightens your face. It brings warmth to your home. Pink is perfect to help you look and feel your best on those dark winter mornings when you don’t want to crawl out of bed. Trust me, and give pink a try.
Pink tops are a good place to start. They go with everything. When my sons were little, I wore a hot pink jacket to their hockey games, and they would always find me in the stands and give me a wave. Even if you don’t want to stand out in a crowd, pinks can offer a real pick-me-up. This comfortable turtleneck tunic is a winter staple for me. It’s great for layering (you can add a base layer underneath or a long cardigan on top), and it goes nicely with jeans or leggings and boots, depending on the weather. I used to work in a hospital, and it was always freezing. I wore this often with a base layer and a scarf, and it was comfortable all day.
This quilted jacket in a floral print is the essence of grandmillennial fashion. Lose the lace bustier and wear a shirt. While I’m probably too old for anything millennial, this cute jacket suits my preppy vibe (again, with a shirt), and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality. The fabric isn’t too thin or too heavy. It’s soft, and the cut allows you to move comfortably. I have worn it over a pink turtleneck sweater for a dressed-up casual and over a sweatshirt and leggings with sneakers. On a warmer winter day, I can wear it out to walk the dog, and I’ve worn it under my big puffer coat to the ice rink. I get compliments every time I wear it, and you can’t beat the price.
I’m over the red nails for the holidays and welcoming this sparkly shade for the rest of the winter. Ok, to be honest, it’s one of three pink shades I will wear all winter, but this one gets the most compliments. I love the bright pop of color. It’s fun, especially when wearing a lot of black or navy in the winter.
While we’re talking about bringing in pops of color, this is a fun oversized sweatshirt to brighten up your workout or just run errands.
If you are tired of wearing black for an evening out, how about a lovely pinky blush? I actually have this dress in black and plan to order it in at least one more color. It’s a forgiving fit with a flattering neckline, flattering waist, and skirt length that is adult-appropriate without being dowdy or unattractive. I also really like the weight of the knit, just enough to hold it’s shape and be warm enough for winter without being hot.
For an everyday nail color that compliments both a casual look and a nice evening out, I love the nail polishes and concealers from Londontown. They go on nicely and can provide real color coverage or a more polished, neutral look. Slopeside is prettier in person than it is in the photo. It’s a subtle finish that goes with everything as opposed to the bold pop of color above.
This is an illuminating nail concealer where the Slopeside is a nail polish. It’s just a hint of color depending on how many coats you use, and it covers any imperfections and gives your winter hands a finished and ladylike look. My grandmother always had lovely hands, which I would like to have too. You can put on your makeup, do your hair, and wear your cute outfit, but it all comes to a stretching halt when you look down and see chapped hands with jagged nails. This concealer does the trick. I have tried a few colors and like Bubble the best.
Now that we have ourselves all decked out in pink let’s see what we can do to brighten up the inside of the house. When my kids were little, they would come home from the end of January to mid-February with glittery arts and crafts for winter, then, more specifically, for Valentine’s Day. I hate glitter. But I will say that hanging all of their sparkly artwork made the house feel more festive and welcoming, especially after all the holiday decorations were put away. Since I’m no longer receiving these homemade works of art, I have found new ways of bringing warmth and love into my winter decor, and they don’t require as much cleanup as all the glitter.
The best bang for your buck is a bright tablecloth. I bought this one last spring and used it in my kitchen all summer. I just pulled it out and put it on my dining room table. With a few vases of winter greens and some candles, it’s a lovely winter look.
I have always layered my textiles. I find layers of color and texture more inviting, and I mix patterns and colors. I also like to put placemats on my tablecloth, which may sound weird, but it’s easier to clean up for everyday cereal spills. I love these block print placemats. While they aren’t the same as the tablecloth, I think they complement each other nicely. Of course, they would also look great on their own.
We use cloth napkins at our house. We only ever use paper napkins if we are hosting a cookout or at the beach. First, they are more eco-friendly, and I do laundry every day anyway, so adding a few napkins is no big deal. Second, they make every meal (even those eaten at the coffee table in front of the TV) more elegant. Third, they dress up your table; fourth, they make it easier to teach your littles to put their napkins on their laps. It’s just harder to do with a piece of paper. I love these pink block print napkins from Furbush Studio. While I would absolutely put all of these pieces together on my table, you can use these napkins with a plain tablecloth or placemat as well.
If you like these pieces, check out the Furbush Studio website. I just bought a bunch of linens during their holiday sale. I think that good linens are a great investment, especially if you use them every day.
How about accents in pink for some other areas of your home? Serving trays are workhorses at my house. I use them to corral remotes and create a spot for coasters and a candle on a coffee table. It’s much more practical than coffee table books for me. I use them in the kitchen to keep the stuff I use daily looking neat and organized (think cooking oil, salt & pepper, teas, and sugar). Picture this pink one in your bedroom or bath, holding a vase of winter greens.
These two kitchen items are things you need no matter what; they happen to come in pink. I bought this glass food storage set when I got rid of my tired old plastic. The glass is dishwasher- and microwave-safe, and the lids are easy to use. There’s simply no excuse for anyone not to put the leftovers away.
And how cute is this utensil set?
Looking for practical and pink? I bought this specific hamper for my daughter’s dorm room, and it’s so great that I’ve purchased two more in blue and gray for my sons’ rooms at home. It holds a ton, it’s lightweight, and the carrying straps are long enough to go over your shoulder, which I like if I am lugging a really full basket up and down from the basement.
To wrap it all up at the end of the day, when you are finished looking fabulous, decorating, cooking with pink utensils, and folding the laundry, put your feet up in these little beauties and enjoy a piece of chocolate and some Netflix like the queen you are.
